Nearly two weeks after north central West Virginia was hit with severe flooding, President Donald Trump has announced that his administration has approved $4.5 million in disaster relief funds.

Trump put the following statement on Truth Social Monday afternoon:

“I just spoke with Patrick Morrisey, the GREAT Governor of West Virginia, a State I love and WON BIG, with Record Setting Votes, three times, and told him I am approving 4.5 Million Dollars for severe storms, winds, tornadoes, flooding, landslides, and mudslides they experienced, and are still recovering from. West Virginia is represented strongly by the Governor, Senators Jim Justice and Shelley Moore Capito, along with Members of Congress, Riley Moore and Carol Miller. I LOVE WEST VIRGINIA! President DONALD J. TRUMP”

West Virginia’s leaders commented on the approval shortly after it was announced:

“Thank you @POTUS for approving West Virginia’s disaster declaration, delivering $4.5 million for our communities impacted by the devastating storms just two weeks ago. These funds will allow areas of our state that were hit the hardest to begin rebuilding and help communities recover stronger in the weeks and months ahead.”

U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV)

“Huge thanks to President Donald J. Trump for backing West Virginia’s disaster declaration and approving $4.5M in critical flood relief.

Our state was hit hard, but we are resilient. We are grateful for the funding, and we will rebuild stronger than ever!”

U.S. Senator Jim Justice (R-WV)
