WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today announced a total of $1,286,111 for West Virginia from the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ). Funding will go to the West Virginia Division of Justice and Community Services to strengthen the prosecution of crimes against women and encourage attorneys to serve as prosecutors.

“Violence against women in any form, whether it be domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking, is unacceptable,” Senator Capito said. “This funding will enable qualified law enforcement to vigorously investigate and prosecute offenders, making West Virginia communities safer. We must also encourage community-based support for victims so they are able to move forward with their lives.”

“Ensuring every woman and child is safe from domestic violence is something we must continue to strive for,” said Senator Manchin. “The STOP Program will encourage and strengthen partnerships among our community, holding offenders accountable for their crimes. I will continue to fight for more opportunities that will increase victim services, to protect those who need it the most.”
