WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $2,622,856 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection. This funding will go towards cleaning and protecting bodies of water throughout West Virginia and will also update technology and underground storage tanks.
“Under the model of cooperative federalism, states play an essential role in implementing programs that protect the environment,” Senator Capito said. “The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection does important work to preserve water quality, look after groundwater, and coordinate programs that preserve national treasures like the Chesapeake Bay. As the lead cosponsor of legislation to reauthorize the Chesapeake Bay Program, I am thrilled to see this funding come to West Virginia, and I will continue to support programs that responsibly protect our environment.”
“I am glad that the EPA is investing in West Virginia to ensure that we have the best technology to preserve and maintain our beautiful waters. This EPA funding will also help us address parts of our aging water infrastructure so we can continue to provide clean water to West Virginians. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for funding that supports West Virginia and our water resources,” Senator Manchin said.
