Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) was in Fairmont on Monday to announce the addition of two Marion County High Schools to the GameChanger program.

Fairmont Senior and East Fairmont High Schools have officially joined North Marion as schools participating in the program, which seeks to empower the youth community across West Virginia to lead healthier lifestyles and abstain from substance use.

The program helps by working directly with schools, educating students in Grades 3-12 through peer mentoring and community-based outreach to help the next generation of students become our next generation of leaders.

“Well, GameChangers is about changing the game and getting awareness and prevention for substance abuse, for empowering students to be able to talk about it, to do student-to-student mentoring. And we know that this is an affliction and an addiction, and, particularly, drug addiction has devastated our families throughout West Virginia, and GameChangers is a proven program. It’s now going to be in all the Marion County schools. This was ground zero where we started, and I’m just really proud to be here today to talk about the expansion,” Senator Capito said.

GameChanger’s goal is to establish a chapter in every school in the state by the 2026-2027 academic year.
