Capito Hosts Girls Rise Up Event
U.S. Senator makes stop at Sistersville Elementary School
U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito hosted Thursday her second West Virginia Girls Rise Up event this month during a stop at Sistersville Elementary School.
Capito, R-W.Va., launched the program in 2015 — the year she was sworn in as the first female U.S. Senator from West Virginia — to instill confidence in young West Virginia women and empower them to be strong, confident and kind female leaders, according to a statement from the senator’s office.
The event in Sistersville was the 16th the senator has hosted since the program began.
“As the first female U.S. Senator from West Virginia, I want to inspire and encourage young girls in our state to work toward their goals and achieve their dreams,” Capito said in the statement. “After spending time with this great group of fourth- and fifth-grade girls at Sistersville Elementary, it is clear to me that they are well on their way to accomplishing so much.
Among the topics Capito discussed were importance of education, physical fitness and self-confidence.
