Senator Shelley Moore Capito alongside Congresswoman Carol Miller are crossing the aisle in support of the Preserving Emergency Access in Key Sites Act.

Also backing the PEAKS Act is democratic senator Alex Padilla and Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren both of California.

Capito, Miller, Padilla Lofgren putting their names behind the reintroduced act (as of the week June 2, 2025).

The goal of the act is to ensure mountainous, rugged and rural communities have equal access to ambulatory services.

Capito saying in part quote: “As residents of the Mountain State, we are proud of our beautiful peaks, however, we are also aware of the transportation challenges—especially for ambulances—that exist due to our mountainous topography.”

The senior senator from West Virginia going on to say the PEAKS Act “ensures even our most rural residents can depend on ambulance services.”

Senator Alex Padilla echoing these sentiments regarding the Golden State:

“California’s 37 Critical Access Hospitals help fill critical coverage gaps by providing emergency medical services in these rural areas, yet with two thirds of them operating in the red, we need to act quickly to prevent more ambulance service closures. Our bipartisan PEAKS Actwould make commonsense updates to help Critical Access Hospitals in mountainous areas get Medicare reimbursements for the emergency care they provide.”
