U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) secured funds for a popular tourist destination in the Mountain State.
According to a press release from the Office of Senator Capito, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) allocated the Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) for the rehabilitation of the water distribution system of Harpers Ferry.
The press release stated Senator Capito asked for the CDS funds in the Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26). The rehabilitation project will help better the quality of life for Harpers Ferry residents and also help tourism and local businesses in the area.
The need for clean water infrastructure is critical in any community.
This CDS funding will go a long way in helping Harpers Ferry make needed improvements that will ensure they will have a more efficient water system that better serves its residents and tourists. As chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee and a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I am proud to utilize the CDS process to help make this project a reality.

The historic Town of Harpers Ferry is incredibly grateful to Senator Capito for recognizing and supporting the rehabilitation of our aged and severely compromised water distribution system. According to the press release, the amount of the CDS award that Harpers Ferry received for the water distribution system project is $5,051,000.
The press release also stated that Senator Capito is Chairman of the Senate Environmental and Public Works (EPW) Committee and a leader on the Senate Appropriations Committee.
