BECKLEY – Small business was one of the main topics of discussion today for Senator Shelley Moore Capito and several locals today.

Property and business owners made their way to Beckley to discuss the future of small businesses in the area and issues impacting the local economy. Capito also addressed the declining coal industry and how important it is to get miners who are unemployed back in the work force.

With WVU Tech coming to Beckley within the next two years, Capito says it’s important to revitalize the area and create new business.

“By revitalizing the downtown, by trying to diversify, by getting everyone online and making sure they have the highest technologies that are available which is one of my great passions, I think that can help to,” says Capito.

Capito also says that the new, younger crowd that comes with a college campus will help boost the local economy.
