U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito will host four Academy Days, including one in October in Beckley.

Academy Days are for students interested in learning about admission to the U.S. service academies and available Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, or ROTC, scholarships.

The Beckley event will be 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 7 at Woodrow Wilson High School.

Members of Capito’s staff will be available at each event to provide information on academy nominations, a press release said.

Admissions representatives from the Air Force, Coast Guard, Military/Army, Naval and Merchant Marine also will be available to answer questions.

Local ROTC representatives will discuss scholarship programs and program details with students.

“As a U.S. Senator, one of my most important responsibilities is nominating young West Virginians for admission to our nation’s service academies,” Capito said in the release. “Academy Days are a great opportunity for students to explore the possibility of attending one of several prestigious academic institutions and meet with admissions representatives. I hope students and their families will attend these events throughout West Virginia.”

Capito will host three other events through the state — Sept. 23 at Spring Mills High School in Martinsburg, Sept. 30 at South Charleston High School and Oct. 1 at University High School in Morgantown. Congressman David McKinley will join Capito for the Morgantown event.

All will be from 2 to 4 p.m.
