U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (center) gets a firsthand look at infrastructure at the Winfield Locks and Dam.
U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito visited Eleanor on Thursday, February 19, where she made a stop at the Winfield Locks and Dam. The Winfield Locks and Dam is a critical navigation facility on the Kanawha River operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Senator Capito secured a $6.9 million CDS allocation in Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22) and an additional $8 million CDS allocation in Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) to support facility improvements at the site.
“The Winfield Locks and Dam is a vital component of the Kanawha River navigation system, keeping commerce flowing safely and efficiently,” Senator Capito said. “I’ve been proud to support federal funding over the years to modernize and strengthen this infrastructure to ensure Winfield remains reliable, efficient, and competitive for decades to come. Investing in projects like this means investing in West Virginia workers and our economy, and I was glad to see how these projects are helping to do just that.”
