PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) - U.S Senator Shelley Moore Capito was in Mercer County today.

Capito went on a tour of Oakvale Elementary School before doing various group exercises with fourth and fifth grade girls as part her program called, 'West Virginia Girls Rise Up!'

After experiencing her own struggles in government and politics, Senator Capito started the program to teach leadership and life skills to young women, while inspiring them to be confident in themselves.

"As the first United States Senator that's a woman I want to inspire the next generation of women leaders to be strong, involved and to try to achieve," Capito said. "These girls are already on their way."
