WASHINGTON — U.S. Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., announced Monday more than $390,000 in funding for airports in Bluefield and Logan.
The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded the grants to the Mercer County and Logan County airport authorities, which will be used to restore and repair airport and runway areas.
“As a pilot myself, I understand how important it is that we maintain the infrastructure at our rural airports,” Manchin said in a joint statement. “This funding will enable Mercer and Logan County Airports to make necessary improvements to continue safely and efficiently serving their communities.”
“These grants will allow airports in Bluefield and Logan to make necessary improvements so they can continue delivering safe and efficient travel services while also promoting economic development in the southern region,” Capito said.
The transportation department granting the Bluefield facility $70,000 and the Logan airport more than $320,000.
