MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — West Virginia U.S. Sens. Shelley Moore Capito and Joe Manchin have announced $663,347 in federal funding for seven fire departments in the state, including $286,343 for the Martinsburg Fire Department.
The grants awarded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency will help the department replace breathing apparatus equipment with a new upgraded model.
“Our dedicated local fire departments keep West Virginia communities safe,” Capito, R-W.Va., said in a news release. “In order for these first responders to effectively do their job, we must properly equip them with the tools and training required to do so, and that is exactly what these grants will provide.”
“This funding will allow our fire departments to upgrade their equipment and continue to provide important services to their communities,” Manchin, D-W.Va., said in the release. “We must continue to do all we can to support these fire departments so they can continue to protect the West Virginian communities they serve.”
