HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Bipartisan legislation would provide an incentive for creating and maintaining public shooting ranges.
United States Senator Shelley Moore Capito and Senator Michael Bennet reintroduced the Target Practice and Marksmanship Training Support Act. This legislation provides 90 percent of funding for developing public shooting ranges.
"There's been a contraction of the number of areas and the number of shooting ranges for availability for sports shooting or target shooting or to teach safe gun practices and it's been frustrating to a lot of people who are interested in doing that," Capito said.
In addition, the Pittsman-Robertson Act would provide funding for wildlife and state fish agencies.
Lance Hendshot, owner of Hendershot's Sporting Goods, believes the legislation will improve availability for those wanting to do target practice.
"I think anything that can introduce public to safe shooting education and educate them of firearm safety is a good thing," said Hendershot.
