U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito stopped by the construction site of the Marshall University Institute for Cyber Security on Wednesday.
This is the first time since the groundbreaking in 2024 that Capito has been at the site. Capito helped secure $29 million for the project.
The center will sit at four stories tall and approximately 78,000 square feet. It will house industry partners that will focus on protecting vital infrastructure as well as cyberspace from hackers. It will also have classroom and lab spaces for students.
"To hear how this is going to be filled with students and private entities and really working for the safety and cybersecurity safety of the country and critical infrastructure is very exciting," Capito said.
The center will be located on the corner of Fourth Avenue and Hal Greer Boulevard in Huntington. Construction is expected to be completed in July 2027.
