West Virginia U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito conducted her weekly press briefing Thursday as day 30 of the government shutdown rolls on.
Capito said Republicans are looking for five Democrats to vote to reopen the government.
The clock is ticking for many Americans as SNAP benefits run out on Saturday.
"They're nutrition and food assistance to people that really need it, to the single mom or the elderly couple or people who are struggling,” Capito said. “And if you can't buy food or just the basics, as a mother myself, it's got to be really tough on our families. Meanwhile, they look to Washington and Washington is basically in a food fight here which could very simply be eased and solved by simply opening the government.”
