Senator Shelley Moore Capito visited Bluefield, West Virginia on Friday, February 20, 2026 to check up on several infrastructure and improvement projects in the city.
Senator Capito said it’s really important for her to visit places like Bluefield and see how projects are going and which ones need more funding. She said as a member of the appropriations committee, she is uniquely positioned to help direct federal funding to West Virginia communities who need it.
“So I want to help the City of Bluefield, or the county, whatever that may be, to help get that additional federal funding,” Capito said. “Because sometimes that can be the anchor funding that really gets the budget going.”
One of the projects Senator Capito mentioned specifically as an area of focus is one to elongate the runway at the airport and add more hangar space, which will allow larger aircraft to land there.
