MONONGALIA, W.Va. - Monongalia County 5th grade girls are learning how to be confident and successful community leaders.

Senator Shelley Moore Capito brought her West Virginia Rirls 'Rise Up Program' to students at North Elementary School in Morgantown Wednesday morning.

WVU Women's Gymnastic team members joined the senator teaching students about education, physical well being and self confidence.

Capito says reaching out to young girls and giving them confidence is critical at this stage in their development.

"You know I think fifth grade is a good year because they've obviously talked about it in the conversations that we've had," said Senator Capito. "They've thought about what they want to be and how they want to excel and I think it's also a good time before they go off to middle school to give them a good start."

Capito hopes to empower young women by brining her program to all 5th graders throughout the state.
