The organization America250, responsible for organizing the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, has appointed U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito to the United States Semiquincentennial Commission.

Senator Capito's role as a Commissioner involves contributing to the planning and celebration of the historic event, fostering partnerships across the nation, and collaborating with organizations at the state and local levels.

Established by Congress in 2016, the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission consists of private citizens, U.S. Representatives, U.S. Senators, and ex-officio members from the federal government and its independent agencies.

America250 is actively involved in planning multi-year commemorative activities leading up to the Semiquincentennial. This includes launching a national public engagement campaign and participating in the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party.

These initiatives are designed to promote a unified and hopeful vision for all Americans.
