CHARLESTON — U.S. Sens. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., and Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., have announced a $18,300 allocation of funds to support the implementation of an Underground Injection Control Program in West Virginia.

The Environmental Protection Agency will be delivering the funds to ensure that sources of drinking water are protected from underground injection activities, according to a joint press release from the senators.

"West Virginians deserve reliable infrastructure that protects access to clean water. Improvements to West Virginia’s water infrastructure are a major priority of mine through my work as Chairman of the EPW Subcommittee on Transportation and Infrastructure," Capito said.

"Programs such as this will help the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection catalog underground injection activity, creating a higher level of accountability within our state and preserving our water quality.”

"Every West Virginian deserves to have clean water to drink and clean air to breathe and this funding will help keep our underground water resources protected," said Manchin.
