One of the highest ranking members of the U.S. Senate visited Bluefield Friday afternoon.

U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, R-West Virginia, attended Cole Chevy Mountain Festival and cut a ceremonial ribbon to welcome the Freedom 250 Truck to the festival.

“We’ve got the Mountain Festival going on here at Bluefield City Park,” Capito said. “But what’s really neat is the Freedom 250 Truck that is an interactive display of really how this nation started, of the battles, of the leaders, of the documents.”

Capito toured the truck shortly after cutting the ribbon. While she was onboard, she took a 10-question quiz modeled on the on the test prospective citizens must pass before becoming Americans.

“They said it’s kind of hard and only 36% of Americans actually pass,” Capito said. “I did pass but I had help. And so those are fun things to do to look and see how much knowledge you have about your country’s founding.”

Capito scored a 10 out of 10 on the test.
