Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, led a business meeting Tuesday that advanced the nomination of Katherine Scarlett to serve on the Council on Environmental Quality.

Scarlett’s nomination was favorably reported by the committee and now heads to the full Senate for consideration. The committee also approved 10 resolutions authorizing General Services Administration repair and alteration projects nationwide.

Capito said Scarlett is well-qualified for the CEQ role, citing her current work as the council’s chief of staff and her prior service at the committee, CEQ and the Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council.

“She has also led efforts in this administration to modernize the NEPA process through the use of technology,” Capito said. “I urge my colleagues to support this nomination and I look forward to her swift consideration on the floor.”
