Recently, Senator Shelley Moore-Capito announced Congressionally Directed Spending dollars for fiscal year 2026 to help support economic development projects throughout West Virginia.

The Community Impact Network Wheeling, W.Va. is among the recipients receiving CDS funding.

The local organization is known for dedicating itself to the improvement of the community through various projects.

The focus is on non-profit childcare, schools, youth programs, poverty alleviation as well as adult and youth education programs.

Community impact has been awarded $250,000 in CDS allocations, which will be used for expanding staffing, classroom resources, training, and helping meet the need for affordable early childhood education.

If I can secure dollars, you can come up with the match, and we can move forward. In terms of our youth, we’ve had foster care issues in West Virginia. We’ve had really terrible stories of neglect. And you know, it breaks my heart. So, anything I can do to help families and children make the most of a great country, that’s what I’m going to do.”

Capito mentioned other local organizations and projects she’s secured funding for in the past including Oglebay, Crittenton and the downtown Wheeling Streetscape

12 other organizations from across West Virginia received CDS funding, with a primary focus on projects that target community growth and improve the quality of life for residents.
