U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., will host four Academy Days next month for students interested in pursuing an appointment to the nation’s military service academies or applying for Reserve Officers’ Training Corps scholarships.
“I encourage all West Virginia students, parents and educators interested in learning more about this opportunity to attend one of my Academy Days throughout September,” Capito said in a statement. “Doing so will provide them and their families with a better understanding of what it means to attend the U.S. Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, Military (West Point) and Naval academies, or obtain a Reserve Officers’ Training Corps scholarship.”
Representatives from service academies and Reserve Officers’ Training Corps programs will be on hand to answer questions. Capito’s staff will also provide details about her nomination process. The Department of Defense’s Medical Examination Review Board will present during the events scheduled for Sept. 27 and 28.
According to Capito’s office, an appointment to a U.S. service academy offers a fully funded education valued between $240,000 and more than $400,000.
