West Virginia’s Senators are pulling in a big contribution to fight a serious disease. Joe Manchin, a Democrat, and Shelley Moore Capito, a Republican, announced that the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services has awarded nearly $430,000 to WVU’s neurological disorder clinical research program to study early Alzheimer’s Disease.
“Alzheimer’s is a terrible disease that effects far too many West Virginians and Americans. Since my first days as Governor, I have also been a big supporter of studying this disease, so that we can protect and care for, both our current and future seniors. With increased investment in research and innovative clinical programs, we can and will develop better treatment and prevention options for this disease. I am proud that our very own WVU is conducting the much needed research in this area,” said Senator Manchin.
“Watching a loved one suffer from Alzheimer’s is one of the most heartbreaking experiences,” Senator Capito said. “Further research into this horrible disease is critical if we are going to find a cure and prevent millions of others from going through that pain. The cutting-edge research being conducted at universities like WVU is a vital part of that effort, and I am glad to see this funding come to our state.”
