WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today announced that the West Virginia University Research Corporation will receive $250,000 in funding from U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP). The funding will support the West Virginia Manufacturing Extension Partnership (WVMEP) Solutions for West Virginia Manufacturers program.

MEP is a national network that aims to enhance the productivity and technological performance of manufacturing in the United States. Through federal, state and local collaborations, MEP centers throughout the country work directly with manufacturers to establish new products and customers, expand and diversify markets, adopt new technologies and enhance value within supply chains.

“I support MEP’s focus on strengthening manufacturing in the United States, which is why I made it a priority to fund this program in the Appropriations Committee in light of proposed elimination in the administration’s budget request,” said Senator Capito, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee. “The WVMEP has been a great partner for our businesses, providing the services and support they need to grow and thrive. As a result of this funding, West Virginia businesses will be able to increase production and performance of manufacturing, which will ultimately contribute to increased economic development, more job opportunities and local and global competitiveness.”

“I have always said that given the right resources, West Virginians work harder than anyone,” Senator Manchin said. “That’s why programs like MEP are so important to economic development in our state. I’m excited to see this investment and will continue to advocate for programs that support West Virginia workers and businesses.”
