Capito and Manchin Announce More Than $894K for WVSU to Support Research Programs
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) announced that $894,348 will be awarded to West Virginia State University (WVSU) from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) to support research programs in food and agricultural sciences at historically black land-grant colleges and universities. This grant was given through the 1890 Institution Teaching, Research, and Extension Capacity Building Grants (CBG) program.
“West Virginia State University continues to be a leading institution in the state, particularly with their significant contributions in innovation,” Senator Capito said. “This funding will help students prepare for their future careers by supporting research, teaching and extension programs.”
“West Virginia State University has helped usher new advances in science over its long history and plays an important role in our state,” Senator Manchin said. “I am glad that WVSU will receive this important funding to enhance research, teaching and extension activities in the foods and agricultural sciences that will allow our students to thrive and help them succeed.”
