WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $812,000 to the West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) to support and monitor aging transportation infrastructure in Charleston, W.Va. The funding is made available through the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) Grant Program, which was established by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).

“When I was helping craft and negotiate the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, support for aging infrastructure in West Virginia was a major priority. This funding announced today will help monitor our transportation infrastructure in Charleston, help keep our resident’s safe, and improve transportation efficiency in our capital city,” Senator Capito said. “It is welcome news to see DOT investing in our infrastructure in Charleston, and West Virginia receiving benefits through the IIJA that I worked to secure. I look forward to seeing the positive impact this project will have in our community.”
