WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today congratulated West Virginia high school students Peyton Barker of Ronceverte, W.Va. and Bryson Riggleman of Petersburg, W.Va. on their selection as West Virginia’s United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) representatives for 2024. Peyton and Bryson were selected from among the state’s top student leaders to participate in the 104 national student delegation as part of the 62nd annual USSYP Washington Week, to be held March 2 — 9, 2024.

“Congratulations to both Peyton and Bryson on their selection to the competitive Senate Youth Program,” Senator Capito said. “Both of these bright students display qualities that are essential to their future success and are making an impact in their communities of Ronceverte and Petersburg. It is clear that Peyton and Bryson are diligent future leaders and display an unmatched dedication to the state of West Virginia. I look forward to welcoming them to Washington in the spring, and I’m certain they will continue to make our state proud.”

The USSYP was created in 1962 and has been sponsored by the Senate and fully funded by The Hearst Foundations since inception. The mission of the program is to help instill within each class of USSYP student delegates more profound knowledge of the American political process and a lifelong commitment to public service. In addition to the program week, The Hearst Foundations provide each student with a $10,000 undergraduate college scholarship with encouragement to continue coursework in government, history, and public affairs.
