WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $1,500,000 for the City of Welch through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants. This funding will support the expansion of the city’s wastewater system into North Welch, serving approximately 93 new customers.
“Modern, reliable infrastructure is critical to providing basic services West Virginians depend on,” Senator Capito said. “Local, state, and federal partners are working hard to ensure McDowell County has the resources to replace outdated infrastructure and support healthier communities. As chairman of the Environment and Public Works Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee and as a member of the Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for infrastructure improvements for West Virginia.”
“Updating and investing in our waste water infrastructure is absolutely critical, especially in rural areas of the state where it is long overdue. These investments will not only help process storm and waste water in Welch but will also provide jobs and new economic opportunities to the people of McDowell County.
