WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee and member of the Appropriations Committee, and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), also a member of the Appropriations Committee, today announced a $1,855,200 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) to improve water quality in rivers and streams throughout the state. The grant is part of EPA's Nonpoint Source Implementation grant program to control water pollution.
“Mitigating nonpoint source pollution is critical to keeping our rivers and streams healthy and in turn keeping our drinking water safe,” Senator Capito said. “West Virginia is blessed with an abundance of water resources, and this investment will help ensure those resources stay in robust condition.”
“West Virginia’s endless rivers and streams are a vital part of our wild and wonderful state. I am pleased EPA is investing over $1.8 million to control water pollution and improve water quality in rivers and streams across the state,” Senator Manchin said. “As Chairman of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee and a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for funding to keep West Virginia’s natural resources safe for generations to come.”
