CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $3,358,087 from the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) to assist the state of West Virginia to reimburse costs associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding will be used to offset costs from the purchase and distribution N95 respirators, surgical masks, isolation medical gowns, and state provided COVID-19 tests and related laboratory work.
“Our local leaders and state health departments reacted quickly at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and provided the resources needed to keep West Virginians safe during an unprecedented time. As we near the end of the pandemic, we must continue to bolster the healthcare foundation of our state so we are prepared for the future, and this funding will help do just that,” Senator Capito said.
“For over a year now, our frontline workers have worked tirelessly to take care of their fellow West Virginians during the COVID-19 pandemic. While we are seeing a light at the end of the tunnel with decreased new COVID-19 infections and more vaccinated West Virginians, we must ensure our healthcare professionals and frontline workers are safe and properly equipped. I am pleased FEMA is continuing to invest in West Virginia to help cover the costs of COVID-19 testing, PPE, medical supplies and other resources to support frontline workers. I will continue to fight for funding that supports our healthcare professionals and frontline workers who help keep West Virginians safe,” Senator Manchin said.
