CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $5,889,379 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) for the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting program.

“Our mothers, soon-to-be mothers, infants, and children deserve access to the resources they need, particularly in the last months of pregnancy and those first few months while transitioning to life with children at home. I’m glad to announce this funding, which will go a long way in ensuring that our young families get off to a healthy start. I know how important this support is for parents and children across West Virginia, and I will continue to use my role to increase access to programs like this for all of our communities,” Senator Capito said.

“The Home Visiting program helps West Virginia mothers and children across the state live healthy lives and raise mentally and emotionally healthy children. This HHS funding is great news for the Mountain State and will help families receive the support they need to care for their children. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding and resources to support West Virginia families,” Senator Manchin said.

The Maternal, Infrant and Early Childhood Home Visiting program aims to improve maternal and child health, while preventing child abuse and neglect. The program supports pregnant people and parents with young children who face greater risks and barriers to achieving positive maternal and child health outcomes. West Virginians participating in the program work with health, social service, and child development professionals in their communities.
