CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $611,003 in funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to support research related to Alzheimer’s disease at West Virginia University (WVU). Specifically, this funding will go toward research examining the differences in responsiveness to treatment between males and females.
“Having lost both of my parents to Alzheimer’s, I know firsthand the toll this disease takes, not only on patients, but also on loved ones and caregivers,” Senator Capito said. “West Virginia University continues to be on the cutting edge of research and innovation, and this funding will help further expand efforts to help find effective treatments and ultimately, a cure. I’ve consistently worked to bring more resources to tackle Alzheimer’s and bring relief to the millions of people it impacts every year.”
“The more we learn about Alzheimer’s disease, the closer we are to finding a cure for this heartbreaking disease. I am pleased HHS is investing in research at West Virginia University to study the impact of risk and responsiveness to treatment by males and females.
