WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.)—along with Senators Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) and U.S. Representative Mike Simpson (R-Idaho)—released the following statement on the inclusion of a proposal to help address the National Park Service maintenance backlog in President Trump’s infrastructure plan and the Department of the Interior’s Fiscal Year 2019 budget request:

“We agree that we have a responsibility to address the growing maintenance backlog in our national parks—which includes roads, buildings, campgrounds, trails, water systems, and more. This is an issue Congress has been focused on for many years; and working with Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, we will introduce bipartisan legislation in the House of Representatives and the Senate in the coming weeks to help restore and rebuild our national parks for the next generation of visitors.”
