Capito Visits Yeager Airport Landslide Site

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) issued the following statement after meeting with Yeager Airport officials this morning in Charleston:

"Today I joined Governor Earl Ray Tomblin, Senator Joe Manchin, Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper and Commissioner Dave Hardy for a briefing with officials regarding the landslide at Yeager Airport that forced several residents to evacuate their homes.  Yeager Airport Director Rick Atkinson assured us that they are working to secure the impacted area and assist those displaced from their homes. I urge all West Virginians in the landslide zone to take all necessary safety precautions. My office is prepared to help those in need of assistance."

According to airport officials, the runway at Yeager Airport is unimpacted by the slip and flights continue to operate. Yeager Airport is offering to make arrangements for people who need to evacuate their homes. Residents who need housing assistance should call Kim Lewis with Yeager Airport at 304-550-8131 or 304-344-8033.

Impacted residents may also contact Senator Capito's Charleston office at 304-347-5372.
