WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today released the below statement after voting to confirm Alex Azar as secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The Senate confirmed Azar by a 55-43 vote.

“During Mr. Azar’s confirmation hearing, he expressed his commitment to address the opioid epidemic, which is devastating communities across West Virginia and the entire nation. I was glad to hear that he plans to make this issue a top priority. Mr. Azar’s background and previous experience with HHS make him well-qualified to serve as our next secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. I look forward to working with him to deliver better health care to West Virginians and continue efforts to combat the devastating opioid epidemic.”
