WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today issued the following statement after voting in support of the FY2017 omnibus appropriations legislation to fund the government. The bill passed the Senate by a vote of 79-18 and is expected to be signed into law by the president.

“The government funding bill we passed today provides critical resources that will help West Virginians in important ways. I fought hard to ensure the final agreement included permanent health care for miners and their families, and passage of this bill ensures that is exactly what they will get. No more notices, no more questioning—just the certainty they deserve and the benefits they were promised.

“The bill also includes much-needed funding to combat the opioid epidemic and assist communities recovering from last June’s flooding. It provides the largest increase in border security funding in a decade, focuses on rural development and supports an all-of-the-above energy policy. These resources will help keep West Virginians healthy and safe, and they will help us continue to strengthen our communities to increase economic opportunity across the state.”
