WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today voted in support of comprehensive pro-growth tax reform legislation. Senator Capito issued the following statement after the Senate passed the bill 51-48:

“Today, we secured a historic and substantial victory for West Virginians and for Americans across the country. Make no mistake: This is an important moment for our nation. Throughout this process, I promised to do what’s best for West Virginia families, workers and small businesses; and I believe that this legislation is absolutely what’s best for our state. These reforms will cut taxes and allow middle-income families to keep more of their hard-earned money. They will help small businesses grow and succeed and make sure American companies remain competitive globally. They will lead to higher wages, more jobs and new opportunities to get ahead.

“As with any major legislative push, there has been a lot of misleading rhetoric from critics and political theatrics from naysayers who never really planned to support this effort. I’m confident that next year—when workers see larger paychecks and communities feel the benefits of greater economic growth—it will be clear that this legislation is exactly the kind of big and bold solution our country needed. I worked hard to advance these critical reforms; I was proud to vote in support of them; and as chairman of the Appropriations subcommittee with jurisdiction over the IRS, I look forward to overseeing their implementation next year.”
