WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) released the below statement following the Senate’s bipartisan passage of a resolution of disapproval to block the Washington D.C. Council’s Revised Criminal Code Act of 2022 (RCCA) from taking effect.

“While homicide, auto theft, and violent crime rates rise in D.C., it is obvious that now is not the time for an irresponsible rewrite of criminal codes that lessen punishments for those who break the law. This vote to block the D.C. Council’s Revised Criminal Code Act of 2022 was a bipartisan and bicameral rejection of misguided policy, and heeds the calls for increased safety by residents and visitors of Washington D.C. that their council has ignored. I was proud to join with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, and stand with law and order and increased protection of our communities,” Senator Capito said.

Yesterday, Senator Capito delivered remarks on the Senate Floor on the out-of-control crime and disregard for law and order enabled by the Biden administration. The senator’s full remarks can be watched here.
