PRINCETON, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a leader on the Senate Appropriations Committee, today made several stops in Raleigh and Mercer counties related to health care, economic development, and Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) projects.

First, Senator Capito travelled to Beckley, W.Va. where she met with local leaders to discuss the CDS process, as well as potential projects and future economic development efforts in the region. Prior to the CDS discussion, Senator Capito met with WVU Tech President T. Ramon Stuart and toured the campus.

“As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I have made sure West Virginia’s priorities are considered when our nation’s funding decisions are determined. I am pleased that many projects in Raleigh County have received needed funding in recent years, and it was great to talk directly with West Virginians who are leading these initiatives. Thank you to WVU Tech President Stuart for showing me around campus, and highlighting the innovative projects happening right here in Raleigh County,” Senator Capito said.

“WVU Tech is honored to host U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito and key community stakeholders to highlight the transformational investments made through Congressionally Directed Spending requests. Our community appreciates Senator Capito's continued interest and support for innovative projects that are paramount to moving Southern WV and our state forward,” WVU Tech President T. Ramon Stuart said.

Next, Senator Capito travelled to Mercer County, W.Va. to the Princeton Health Care Center, where she received a tour of the facility, met with staff, and discussed several of the center’s initiatives.

“Having specific health services available in our rural communities is a vital aspect in keeping West Virginians healthy. The Princeton Health Care Center provides many necessary services that our residents rely on, and I was thrilled to receive an update on operations at the facility today and meet with their dedicated staff. I will continue to use my role in the U.S. Senate to provide the resources they need to keep operations running efficiently,” Senator Capito said.

“Princeton Health Care Center appreciates Senator Capito for taking the time to tour our beautiful facility. We look forward to discussing issues that currently impact those in the post-acute healthcare sector,” Princeton Health Care Center CEO and Administrator Stefanie Compton said.

Lastly, Senator Capito met with local leaders in Mercer County at the Princeton Municipal Building to discuss economic development and CDS projects in the area.

“Discussions with local leaders who are on the ground in West Virginia are essential to my work in the Senate. It was great to meet with officials from Princeton, Bluefield, and communities across Mercer County today to discuss economic development efforts and current projects. I look forward to continuing our work together in the future to grow opportunities in the region and improve the lives of residents,” Senator Capito said.

“The City of Princeton and the Princeton Economic Development Authority appreciates Senator Capito’s visit and the opportunity to discuss regional economic development issues. Her support played a crucial role in our efforts to provide a community center and other facility updates at the Princeton Municipal Complex. We thank her for all that she continues to do for our community and State,” PEDA Director Samuel Lusk said.
