HARRISON COUNTY, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a leader on the Senate Appropriations Committee, today made several stops in Harrison County focused on economic development and Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) projects.

First, Senator Capito visited the Kelly Miller Community Center where she toured the facility and met with the center’s leadership and local leaders. During the discussion, the group discussed the recent FY2023 CDS award the center received and Senator Capito secured, as well as future plans for the center and how these funds will be directed toward projects to improve the operations.

“As a leader on the Appropriations Committee, I have made sure West Virginia’s needs are front and center when our nation’s funding decisions are determined. The Kelly Miller Community Center is a perfect example, and I was proud to help them secure a CDS request earlier this year that will directly impact their facility—and ultimately the surrounding community. I enjoyed the opportunity today to see firsthand the improvements they are making and hear about their vision for the future,” Senator Capito said.

“We are thrilled to have Senator Capito visit the Kelly Miller Community Center here in Clarksburg and speak with her about the wonderful projects and programs we are working on here.” Sherri James, Program Director at the Kelly Miller Community Center, said.

Next, Senator Capito visited Pierpont Community Technical College where she toured the Caperton Center and met with Pierpont’s leadership team to receive an update on the operations and discuss CDS funding.

“Pierpont does a great job preparing students for the future, and I had the chance to witness that today during my visit. The growth they have made in recent years and the potential they have to improve even more promises to benefit so many West Virginians and help them meet the challenges of the workforce of tomorrow,” Senator Capito said

“It was great to host Senator Capito at Pierpont today. We appreciate the opportunity to update her on the success of our programs and our goals for the future,” Dave Hinkle, Chair of the Pierpont CTC Board of Directors, said.

Lastly, Senator Capito visited STOCKMEIER Urethanes USA, Inc., a specialty polyurethane systems manufacturer. During the visit, Senator Capito toured the facility and met with members of the company’s leadership and local leaders.

“West Virginia is always open for business, which is why I’ve worked hard to support programs and initiatives that help encourage an environment in West Virginia where companies want to locate and families want to build their futures. We are happy to have companies like Stockmeier set up shop in the Mountain State and even happier to have them stay for years to come. I enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about their operations today and excited about what’s ahead,” Senator Capito said.

“Senator Capito is not only a strong advocate for the West Virginia economy in Washington, but our local chemical and energy industry as well. We are excited to welcome her here at STOCKMEIER Urethanes USA, Inc. in Clarksburg for a plant tour and visit,” Chris Martinkat, Chairman of the Executive Committee at Stockmeier Urethanes, said.
