HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), traveled to Huntington, W.Va., to receive updates on and tour community projects.

First, Senator Capito visited Facing Hunger Foodbank to deliver remarks and receive updates on their efforts in the community. Facing Hunger Foodbank serves 130,000 individuals annually in a 4,358 square mile service area, which includes: Cabell, Boone, Jackson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, McDowell, Mason, Mingo, Putnam, Wayne and Wyoming counties in West Virginia; Boyd, Greenup, Lawrence and Martin counties in Kentucky; and Lawrence County in Ohio.

“It was great to visit Facing Hunger Foodbank today to receive updates on their efforts in our state,” Senator Capito said. “Without their great work, countless West Virginians would face challenges putting food on their table. They are a true example of neighbors helping their neighbors.”

“As we have taken this opportunity to highlight key moments for Facing Hunger Food Bank, I have many reflections of Senator Capito and her team. The senator was a key supporter of the transition of then-Huntington Area Food Bank, and on a VERY challenging weather day in March 2014, she showed up to mark the beginning of a new era for the food bank. Since that time, we have experienced a wonderful working relationship with not only the senator, but key staff members right up to the present. Her Chief of Staff, J.T. Jezierski, as well as the team, have been responsive to the needs of the food bank but more importantly, the voices of the West Virginians we serve. The senator is always welcoming as we pass in flight and in Washington, and she readily shares space to learn from us about the work we keep expanding to ensure we are responsive to the needs of those we collectively serve,” Cynthia D. Kirkhart, Chief Executive Officer of Facing Hunger Food Bank, said.

“Being here today at Southside Elementary School to read to students was a great opportunity to connect with them,” Senator Capito said. “I always enjoy spending time with our young West Virginians and today was no exception.”
