ROMNEY, W.Va. – Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) traveled to Mineral and Hampshire counties to make stops focused on recent Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) allocations she helped secure.
First, Senator Capito traveled to Ridgeley, W.Va. to visit the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department and receive an update on their recent CDS allocation. In March, she helped secure a $2,841,000 CDS allocation to construct a new fire station to replace their current 54-year-old facility. Through this allocation, the fire department will help ensure the protection of life and property in Ridgeley, Carpendale, and the surrounding communities. Senator Capito previously secured a $1.2M FY24 CDS allocation for Ridgeley’s town hall and police department.
“It was great to be in Ridgeley to receive updates from the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department,” Senator Capito said. “I was proud to help secure their CDS allocation that will help enhance public safety in the surrounding area. This investment reflects my continued commitment to equipping our community partners in the state with the resources they need to serve.”
“We sincerely thank Senator Shelley Moore Capito for securing the congressionally directed funding to help construct the new Ridgeley fire station. Her support represents a lasting investment in our volunteers and the safety of Ridgeley, Carpendale, and the surrounding communities. This funding brings us closer to a modern facility that will protect our equipment, support our operations, and allow us to serve our community for generations to come. We are grateful to Senator Capito for recognizing the importance of this project and helping us build a facility that would not have been possible without her support,” Steve Shipley, Assistant Fire Chief of the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department, said.
To finish the day, Senator Capito traveled to Romney, W.Va. to meet with commissioners from Hampshire County and representatives from Hardy Telecommunications. There, she received updates from both and efforts to expand high-speed internet access in rural communities across Hampshire and surrounding communities.
“Being in Romney was a great opportunity to connect with commissioners from Hampshire County as well as representatives from Hardy Communications,” Senator Capito said. “I enjoyed receiving updates on everything going on in the area and how efforts are coming along to expand high-speed internet access in the surrounding area.”
