CHARLESTON/RICHWOOD, W.Va. — Recently, Senator U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) participated in several events in Charleston, W.Va. and Richwood, W.Va. that highlighted economic development and her efforts to secure federal support for projects in the community.
On Saturday, October 7, Senator Capito attended the grand opening celebration for the Charleston Area Medical Center’s (CAMC) new Learning and Research Center. The new facility was partially funded by a $6 million Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) request secured solely by Senator Capito.
During the CAMC event, Senator Capito met with Vandalia Health and CAMC leaders and received a tour of the facility. This new center will be used for education and research within Vandalia Health and CAMC to teach medical professionals how to use advanced technology and equipment to better serve West Virginians.
“I was proud to use my role on the Appropriations Committee to secure the resources that helped the new CAMC Learning and Research Center become a reality,” Senator Capito said. “This new facility will help raise the standard of care we can offer in our state and strengthen the current and future doctors, nurses, and medical experts in West Virginia.”
“The CAMC Center for Learning and Research is critical to training and retaining future health care providers,” David L. Ramsey, President and CEO of Vandalia Health, said. “We are grateful for the senator’s continued leadership and support in graduate medical education.”
On Monday, October 9, Senator Capito traveled to Richwood, W.Va. where she delivered remarks at the Richwood Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Banquet and met with local business leaders.
“It was an honor to speak to the Richwood Chamber of Commerce and meet with local businesses that keep this city moving. The City of Richwood and its economy have a bright future ahead with the leaders here at the Chamber helping it grow,” Senator Capito said. “I also want to offer my congratulations to all the Chamber Award Winners this year, especially Mayor Johnson, on their hard work and well-deserved recognition.”
“We are so pleased to have Senator Capito as our guest speaker for our Fall Chamber of Commerce banquet. She has been a friend of Richwood since her time representing us in Congress. She understands the role of small business in keeping our economic engine running. I would also be remiss if I did not mention her contributions to tourism and the timbering industry which are the basis of our local economy and her support of infrastructure which has allowed many West Virginia communities become more economically viable,” Gary Johnson, Mayor of Richwood, said.
