CHARLESTON, W.Va. – On Saturday, February 6 at 1:00 p.m., U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) will attend the promotion ceremony for Paige P. Hunter, the first woman in history to be promoted to Brigadier General in the West Virginia National Guard.

“General Hunter’s selfless service to West Virginia, and the nation as a whole, is truly admirable. By demonstrating dedication and valor throughout her career, General Hunter has made West Virginia proud,” said Senator Capito. “I am honored to congratulate General Hunter on becoming the first female Brigadier General in West Virginia National Guard history, and I thank her for being a powerful role model for our young women and girls.”

Prior to her assignment as the Chief of the Air Staff for West Virginia National Guard in 2015, General Paige P. Hunter served four years as the Secretary of the National Guard Association of West Virginia. She served as the Director of Military Support to Civil Authorities/J3, as Mission Support Group Commander, Mission Support Flight Commander and Chief of Intelligence for the 130th Airlift Wing. Her deployments include operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

General Hunter has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor and three devices, and the National Defense Service Medal, among many others.
