WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced West Virginia University has been granted $130,037 by the Department of Health and Human Services Center for Substance Abuse Treatment to support mental health and substance abuse treatment programs.
“Nurses and other health care professionals are on the frontlines confronting substance abuse and other mental health issues,” Senator Capito said. “West Virginia’s first-class education institutions are critical to ensuring these men and women have the knowledge and tools necessary to serve the people of our state. I will continue to work closely with them and other health professionals to keep West Virginia communities healthy.”
“West Virginia has long been ground zero of the opioid epidemic and now ground zero for recovery efforts. This funding will help train our next generation of nurse practitioners so they are able to better serve addicted populations in our state. I’m proud of the critical role West Virginia University is playing in combating this epidemic and as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating to secure similar funding for the future,” Senator Manchin said.
