EDA Floor Speech

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, today spoke on the Senate floor in support of confirming John Fleming to lead the Economic Development Administration (EDA) at the Department of Commerce. She also explained how the EDA has invested in West Virginia’s economic growth and diversification and how she has worked to encourage and deliver those investments. The Senate this afternoon confirmed Fleming by a vote of 67 to 30.

“EDA did not always play an active role in West Virginia, which is really odd when you consider that we have no shortage of economic development and infrastructure needs and challenges in our state,” Senator Capito said. “But at my insistence and with the collaboration of staff, we have turned a corner, and today, we are beginning to see real investments that will make a lasting difference in West Virginia.”
